Ontario North

Riders who wish to remain in Canada and not ride through the U.S. portion of the GNBR can follow this route from Winnipeg through Northern Ontario to Sault Ste. Marie. This route involves long stretches on the Trans Canada Hwy, as there are no viable alternatives. Expect moderate to high amounts of traffic, including trucks and RVs. In some areas, the shoulder on the highway is fairly narrow. Many cross-country cyclists do take this route, but the U.S. portion of the GNBR that bypasses the need to cycle on lengthy stretches of the Trans Canada Hwy is a better bikepacking experience. At least areas along the northern shores of Lake Superior are lovely.
